Teachers and educators are vitally important contributors to research in education; without their efforts the assessment of students in schools wouldn’t be possible. The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) conducts large-scale comparative studies of education across the globe to provide insight into students’ performance in different education systems – both their achievement levels and the potential factors affecting their achievement levels. IEA has released a new book aimed at linking education research to education practice: Supporting Reading Comprehension in a Digital World. Teaching reading comprehension is becoming more rooted in digital environments, and this book provides an overview of current research and recent scientific insights on digital reading comprehension, suggested example lesson plans for teachers, and case studies from around the world (Singapore, Italy and Ireland) demonstrating some real-life approaches to teaching digital reading comprehension. The open-access book is available here – https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-75121-9
In addition, a new Teacher Snippet has been published to accompany the book. Our Teacher Snippets are original, peer-reviewed, short-format publications in a series that highlights practical information based on IEA studies to give back to teachers and provide ideas for in-class activities. This new Teacher Snippet shows how six key principles for teaching reading comprehension from digital texts can be applied in the classroom using a digital text from ePIRLS. https://www.iea.nl/publications/iea-teachers-snippet/digital-reading-comp
