Workshop Lead
Dr. David Osher, Vice President & Institute Fellow at American Institutes for Research
Description
Syntheses of the science of learning and development show that under the right conditions, students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. This requires creating optimal conditions for learning and development, informed by scientific evidence that can help educators and school realize Sustainable Development Goal 4—making real the right of every single child they encounter to experience inclusive and quality education.
Accessing and operationalizing this knowledge is doable but not always easy. This half-day workshop will:
- overview the overarching findings of the science of learning and development and implementation science with attention to their implications for educator, organization, and researcher practice;
- curate key resources on the science of learning and development as well as implementation science research on readiness and the importance of implementation support;
- introduce tools and strategies that can be used to plan, assess, and build powerful learning and developmental opportunities and environments consistent with the science of learning and development—and to do so in participants’ cultural and organizational context;
- introduce tools and strategies that can be used to monitor and build readiness to implement new policies, programs, and practices that provide powerful learning and development opportunities; and
- provide an opportunity for participants to interact with each other and the presenter.
