Meet Stefan Johansson, WERA Visiting Researcher Award 2024 at CAE, NIE-NTU, Singapore

We are pleased to announce our visiting researcher who is coming on 4-22 April 2025 on an award jointly organized by WERA, ERAS, & CAE at NIE/NTU. This award program enables the visiting researcher to develop his own research project while benefiting from the individual support of experts from NIE NTU, Singapore working in different fields related to evaluation and assessment.

Stefan Johansson is an associate professor of Education at the Department of Education and Special Education at the University of Gothenburg. His work primarily utilizes international large-scale datasets and register data to investigate a broad range of issues in education. One strand focuses on how formal teacher competence can be measured and how it affects student achievement. He also examines validity issues in educational assessments. In a recent project he has investigated the extent to which PISA test scores in Sweden align with national test results and grades, considering the moderating role of student motivation. As part of his academic responsibilities, he also coordinates two research schools focusing on quantitative methods in educational research.

Associate Professor Nie Youyan from the Psychology and Child & Human Development Department will be serving as his academic mentor for the duration of this visit. Her research interests include Innovation in curriculum instruction and assessment, motivation in education and human development, organizational climate in classroom and school settings, self-regulated learning.

Through this award program, we hope to enhance the research projects/interests of the visiting researcher by providing support from the partner institute; as well as provide the opportunity to collaborate with visiting researcher and doctoral-level staff from the partner institute and promote networking within a worldwide research community.
