The National Geographic Society recently launched an education-focused request for proposal titled Spatial Thinking: Inspiring Place Based Solutions. This funding opportunity invites proposals that identify a challenge related to a specific place and its unique conditions and leverages an educational solution using spatial thinking to enable people to act on behalf of our planet and its people. Spatial thinking involves visualizing, interpreting, and reasoning information using location, patterns, scale, relationships, movement, and change over time in order to understand our world and develop impactful solutions. Applications are encouraged that may define spatial thinking broadly, which could include engaging learners (of any age, in any setting) in understanding a place’s unique conditions and inspiring people to take positive action.
This highly competitive opportunity is open to applicants over the age of 18. Funding may be awarded in either a Level I or Level II grant. Awardees will receive funding up to USD $20,000 for a Level I grant or on average $50,000 USD, and may not exceed $100,000 USD, for a Level II grant. Please note that individuals who are National Geographic Explorers must apply for Level II funding.
National Geographic will be hosting an informational webinar on March 27, 2025 at 9 AM EST. Register today! The deadline for submissions is May 5, 2025, at 11:59 PM EDT. Check out the full funding opportunity for additional details and the eligibility criteria.
