Selection Outcome: New Chair of the WERA DEC Network

The selection process for the new Chair of the WERA Doctoral and Early Career (DEC) Network has been successfully concluded. 

The Selection Committee, comprised of Bee Leng Chua, Senior Advisor of the DEC Network, and Laura Camas, the outgoing Chair, has reviewed all nominations and conducted an interview with the candidate.

After careful consideration, Dr. Natasha Ziebell, the WERA DEC representative from the European Educational Research Association (EERA), has been appointed as the new Chair of the WERA DEC Network. Her term will span 2 years (2024- 2026), with an additional 6-month shadowing period.

Dr. Natasha Ziebell is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne. Her teaching and research contributes to building the evidence base on how curriculum and assessment are aligned, designed and implemented to cater for all students. A distinguishing feature of her work is its collaborative nature, bridging disciplines and involving co-design with schools, institutions and education departments.

Her research explores curriculum reform, curricular alignment and authorship, with a particular focus on the intended, enacted and assessed curriculum. Recent projects include an online mathematics tutoring initiative (Years 6-9), developing a Continuity of Learning (Birth to Year 12) framework, a national pilot program for preschool numeracy, examining the use of generative AI in universities and the impact of COVID-19 on teaching and learning in Australia.

Natasha was a co-convener of the EERA Emerging Researchers Group. She currently serves on academic and education advisory panels, and has acted as chair and panel member for the registration of initial teacher education programs. Natasha began her career as a kindergarten and primary school teacher.
