In collaboration with the World Education Research Association (WERA), the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), and the Research Centre ‘Literacy in Diversity Settings’ (LiDS) at the University of Hamburg, we warmly invite early-stage and experienced researchers engaged in educational research from all nationalities to apply for the WERA Visiting Researcher Award.
Why WERA Visiting Researcher Award?
This award enables visiting researchers to develop their own research project while benefiting from the individual support of experts from the partner institutes working in different fields related to international large-scale assessments, especially with a focus on diversity in education. The data provided by Uni Hamburg concerns linguistic diversity and education, in particular questions of multilingual development in a longitudinal perspective (The MEZ-Study). The awardee will be privileged with direct access to data and resources of the partner institutes in carrying out their research projects.
Who can apply?
This opportunity is open to current WERA members, including WERA individual members as well as those from WERA-affiliated Associations and Institutions. Early stage researchers and experienced researchers engaged in educational research from all nationalities are welcome to apply. All applicants must hold minimum masters or an equivalent degree.
Visit hosts
The research visitor will be co-hosted by IEA Hamburg and University of Hamburg, both located in Hamburg, Germany. Both institutes cooperate in different research projects. The researcher will get an opportunity to spend time at both institutes during their six to eight weeks visit period.
What proposals are expected?
Research proposals should correspond to the research activities and study data of host organizations. For Uni Hamburg, please refer to www.mez.uni-hamburg.de. For IEA data, please visit https://www.iea.nl/studies. Applicants are expected to provide details regarding the data they intend to utilize for their research visit.
Financial award
Awardees will receive a grant of € 3,500 to cover their travel, stay and other subsistence costs during the researcher’s stay. The host institutes will provide assistance with locating affordable housing.
Duration
The visit will last six to eight weeks in 2025. Exact time-period will be negotiated with the awardee. Shortened or extended visits may be arranged upon request.
